TECHNICAL TRAINING COURSES

RAILWAY INDUCTION TO TRACK ENGINEERING

  • The course is designed to provide learners with a broad introduction to track engineering, catering to both entry-level participants, and experienced railway operatives seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The RITE Course places an emphasis on hands-on experience. Learners are given the chance to engage with and become competent in a range of P-way tools and equipment. These include handheld tampers, impact wrenches, hand trollies, abrasive wheels, and rail saws.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have the ideal training venue at Downpatrick & County Down Railway, and we extend our thanks to the team for their assistance and support with our training activities.

Adding to the benefits, every participant attending the RITE course is automatically granted a complimentary one-year membership with the PWI.

Learn the fundamentals of railway maintenance and renewals.

Gain hands-on experience with railway infrastructure.

Acquire essential skills for various roles in the rail sector.

  • Upon completing the R.I.T.E. course, you'll be equipped for various roles in the rail sector.

HAND TROLLEY CONTROLLER & MANUAL HANDLING

  • Hand Trolley Controller & Manual Handling Training is a 1 day course designed to equip rail operatives with the knowledge and practical skills to safely manage the use of approved hand trolleys and rail mounted portable plant across track environments.

The course explores the correct use of hand trolleys, covering everything from pre-use checks and safe loading to operational limits and secure storage. It also reinforces the importance of manual handling techniques to prevent musculoskeletal injuries, particularly when lifting, loading, or manoeuvring equipment in challenging rail conditions.

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of how to plan and conduct trolley movements safely, carry out brake tests, and work in compliance with line protection protocols. The training also emphasises environmental awareness—considering gradients, canted track, and other physical site risks.

Hand Trolley Controller & Manual Handling Training enables teams to work confidently and safely—minimising risk and ensuring compliance every step of the way.

  • Open to all personnel required to operate hand trolleys or similar rail mounted equipment. Participants must hold a valid PTS competency.

  • Participants will receive a certificate of competence on Hand Trolley Controller and Manual Handling - Valid for 2 Years

GEOFENCING

  • Geofencing Training events are designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to enhance worksite safety using advanced geospatial technology.

The training introduces the concept of virtual boundaries, known as geofences, digitally mapped zones that define safe working areas, access points, and restricted zones across a site. It also explores the importance of situational awareness, highlighting why human error remains a significant risk factor and how technology can support safer decision-making.

Participants will learn how to plan and implement geofences, assign devices to personnel and plant, and respond to real-time alerts aimed at preventing incidents caused by human error. The course also covers geotagging, providing enhanced control and visibility across complex environments.

    TRUSTED PARTNERSHIP

Delivered in collaboration with AMC Training & Consultancy and Tended, the training blends hands-on expertise with cutting-edge technology. Together, we provide the tools and techniques to integrate geofencing into daily operations—enhancing both safety culture and operational control. Geofencing Training helps teams develop a shared understanding of the environment, equipping them to stay alert, act quickly, and work with confidence. AMC Training and Consultancy are the only Tended approved supplier of training in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

  • Although the course is primarily designed for track worker safety within the railway industry, it is also open to any organisation seeking to enhance on-site safety through geospatial technology.

  • Participants will receive a certificate of competence upon successful completion.
