OUR RAILWAY TRAINING FACILITY

Downpatrick & County Down Heritage Railway

Established in 1985, the Downpatrick & County Down Railway is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run charity and Ireland’s only standard gauge heritage railway. We operate steam and heritage diesel trains on a network spanning approximately three miles.

Historically, our track maintenance activities have relied entirely on a dedicated group of volunteers. However, our collaboration with AMC has significantly enhanced our Permanent Way Works programme without imposing additional demands on our volunteers. This partnership allows us to benefit from cutting-edge railway civil engineering techniques while also serving as an educational platform for AMC, their partners, and candidates from the rail sector.

Through this initiative, we are proud to contribute to the development of young people, aligning with our charitable aim to support the growth and professional advancement of the next generation in Northern Ireland.

We look forward to the continued development of this invaluable relationship, supporting industry growth and innovation in Northern Ireland.
